I used to think self-care was about bubble baths and an occasional spa treatment. After several life changes and losses, my lack of knowledge attacked me—literally.
One morning, sitting in a doctor’s office during a major panic attack, I agreed to visit a professional counselor. My new friend introduced me to simple methods of recognizing and processing my feelings and emotions. Apparently, survival mode doesn’t work long term.
You can do this!
We survivalists are not alone, but we often feel lonely in our battles. Are your coping skills actually covering-up skills? Mine were. It is hard work to reject a life-time of “good girl” and “people-pleasing” mental programming.
Take it one day at a time. Above all, seek professional help when you feel overwhelmed. Know you are not alone in your struggles. God is with you, offering you His guidance, endless love, and grace.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
