Soul Music Comfort

Soul Music Comfort

As a pre-teen, the record player in my bedroom was my constant companion. Able to drown out any loud and overheated conversation happening in the next room, every song held the promise of a different life when I was old enough to make my own choices.

Soul Music with Comfort

We all have struggles to work through. Let’s agree it is difficult, exhausting, confusing, and time-consuming work. Years later, during morning prayer, I cried out to God that I just wanted to be free! As always, I leaned into music for comfort and began searching my music app. I found Jason Upton’s album “Remember.” I believe God led me specifically to the song “Fly.” I can’t describe the sensation I had listening to this song, but deep in my soul I knew God was telling me I was already free by my faith in Him. I no longer had to be haunted by the ghosts of my past if I trusted in Jesus. As I researched Upton to find more of his music, I read a story on the recording of “Fly.” Those who produced the song believe they recorded an angel singing in the background. I will let you search it out and decide for yourself!

Music can also reassure us that we are not alone in our pain and suffering. The song, “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me, offers comfort despite our difficult experiences.

Whatever is going on in your life, realize God hears your prayers and is working on your behalf. Encourage yourself by reading the Bible or listening to God’s word in song. We can endure and believe in the mercy of God in many ways, so remember, there is no shame or lack of faith if you need professional help. The goal is living in the freedom of God!

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
