Seeds of Life or Destruction

Seeds of Life or Destruction

A seed doesn’t look like much, yet carries in its tiny being everything needed to grow flowers and fruit. Ideas are like seeds, starting small to produce something larger. Do you plant seeds of life to get beautiful flowers and delicious fruit, or seeds of destruction to get bitter weeds and painful thorns?

The Bible instructs us to guard our hearts. Our minds are the gateway to our hearts. We plant the seed of an idea in our minds by what we see and hear. An idea may seem unimportant at the time and we may not recognize it as harmful. However, ideas grow within us that may produce weeds and thorns, choking out the flowers and fruit of our heavenly wisdom. Therefore, negative ideas, like an addiction, work slowly, undetected, until it takes a great deal of work to eradicate them, or we succumb to their control.

Avoid Seeds of Destruction

For example, what are the seeds of destruction planted in our minds? Pornography, murder (as a problem resolution), theft, envy, foul language, promiscuity, acceptance of sin—everything human beings have been dealing with since the beginning of time. After that, does the internet promote ideas as more acceptable because they are easily accessible?

It takes courage to filter what we see and hear. Above all, we can choose the ideas we allow to be planted in our minds and take root in our hearts. We can choose to plant seeds of life and avoid destruction.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

James 3:17-18 NLT

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Proverbs 4:23 NLT

Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.

Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.
