Have you ever had one of those moments when you suddenly realize your life is a comedy routine?
Ever since COVID, I get my groceries by ordering online. It is so easy. My local store does a great job choosing produce and making good substitutions—most of the time.
Recently I had ordered a snack-size container of baby carrots. When unloading my groceries, I pulled out a two-pound bag of baby carrots! Here is what happened next:
Grant: (noticing the look on my face) “How’s it going?”
Me: (in a stressed voice) “They gave me a two-pound bag of carrots! We couldn’t eat all these carrots in a year! Can you freeze baby carrots?! What I’m I going to do with all these carrots?!!”
Then it hit me. I sounded just like Marie from Everybody Loves Raymond. Remember the first episode when Ray signed his mom up for the Fruit of the Month Club? She throws a fit and says, “What am I supposed to do with all those pears?”
After Grant and I stopped laughing, I took the carrots to a neighbor who cooks for her mother, sister, and grandson. Grant complimented me on turning a challenge into a blessing. Honestly, I was just overwhelmed looking at all those carrots!
Billy Graham said, “A keen sense of humor helps us to overlook the unbecoming, understand the unconventional, tolerate the unpleasant, overcome the unexpected, and outlast the unbearable.”
It’s all about perspective. And, not taking ourselves too seriously. Groucho Marx said, “If you find it hard to laugh at yourself, I would be happy to do it for you.”
Laughter is a gift that we can share with others, and perhaps even help adjust our perspectives in most situations. Wouldn’t that be a fun way to change the world?
“A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.” Proverbs 15:13 MSG
“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can.” Ecclesiastes 3:12
