Just Right

Just Right

Goldilocks was a messed-up girl. As with any cautionary tale, we can gain personal insight from her story without being chased by bears!

Goldie clearly had an attitude problem. She had no manners, boundaries, or respect for others. Which raises the question: what influences our life choices and can we change our childhood programming as adults?

Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar once said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Here’s what we can learn from Goldilocks:

Too Hot or Too Cold

Influenced by news feeds and social media, we judge other people’s lifestyle choices. We choose to consider them too hot or too cold. Based on our personal biases, we will gravitate towards or emulate those we deem to be ‘just right.’ But just feeding what we already believe doesn’t challenge us to improve. Growth sometimes requires stepping out of our comfort zone.

Too Big or Too Small

By comparing ourselves to others, we think our own dreams, goals, and ambitions are too big to start or achieve. Or, we can feel too insignificant and wonder if we should even try to begin. Comparisons are always a no-win situation. We all have unique experiences based on our unique circumstances. Although we may share feelings, each life is different: your mileage may vary.

Too Hard or Too Soft

Self-care issues, like setting boundaries and getting the help we need, can seem too hard. Along the way, we neglect our physical care and allow ourselves to get too soft. Certainly, faith in God is our true foundation; next comes self-care. When we don’t think or feel well, life’s challenges become amplified. We can’t care for others when we are not well ourselves.

Just Right

Waiting for life to be just right is an illusion. Real life isn’t ever just right. Don’t live a conditional life. Experience each day as it comes. Treasure your just-right moments, but don’t allow fear to keep you from working toward your dreams, goals, and ambitions. The world needs what you offer. There is a person right now who needs your unique personality to reach them. They need your love, encouragement, and insight that only you have through a lifetime of your experiences.

Don’t be a Goldilocks. Don’t wait. Start today!

P.S. Just to add a little science to your day: did you know that the Earth is in what is called the “Goldilocks Zone” of the solar system? Learn more from NASA here! Are you excited about the upcoming moon mission launch like I am?

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2

“I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” Philippians 4:11

Love this reflection on how not to fall into the Goldilocks trap, Dana. Especially, “Don’t live a conditional life. Experience each day as it comes. Treasure your just-right moments, but don’t allow fear to keep you from working toward your dreams, goals, and ambitions.”

Thank you, Wynne, and it is hard since we like things just right, don’t we?!

Than you, Wynne! But it is hard to not want everything just right, isn’t it?

This is simply so true yet so beautiful, “There is a person right now who needs your unique personality to reach them. They need your love, encouragement, and insight that only you have through a lifetime of your experiences.”

I used to love the round pieces of wood Zig Ziglar gave out that had “Tuit” written on them. You could never again say, “I’ll do it when I get around to it (round tuit).”

Oh yes, I remember those! Thank you for the reminder!

Thanks, Dana. I certainly enjoyed your thoughts and analysis. Goldilocks certainly doesn’t come out of this well does she. She’s guilty of breaking and entering, theft, and critical damage; she’s critical of other’s choices and preferences, and runs away when confronted with her faults! I don’t know what we learn from that, Dana!

Excellent, Dana. We can choose contentment, and although that’s not always easy, it’s doable! Moon shot coming soon!
