These quotes on baseball are a follow up to my Life is Like Baseball post.
I hope to inspire you with these simple thoughts by some of baseball’s greatest players and one well-known fan. Don’t miss the next two Wednesday posts! I will introduce you to a baseball gospel song and share how Orel Hershiser pitched his faith on Johnny Carson!

One of my quotes on baseball is by Roberto Clemente, who joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1954. In a time where he struggled against racial and cultural prejudices, he received every award in Major League Baseball. Furthermore, he had a passion for helping others.
Clemente said, ”If you have a chance to help others and fail to do so, you’re wasting your time on this earth.”
The Baseball Hall of Fame tells us, “On Dec. 31, 1972, Clemente boarded a small plane en route from Puerto Rico to Nicaragua to assist with earthquake relief. The heavily loaded plane crashed just off the Puerto Rican coast, and Clemente’s body was never recovered. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973 in a special election that waived the mandatory five-year waiting period.”
