I wrote Life is Like Baseball because of one of the best things I appreciate about being a part of the WordPress community: the inspiration and encouragement I get from other bloggers.
First, Wynne inspired me with her go-to metaphor on life: mountain climbing! Although I clocked a few miles on mountain hiking trails in my youth, I have never attempted to climb a mountain. You need no experience to relate completely to every point on Wynne’s list. Check out her thoughtful post here.
Next, Malcolm followed up with his own musings in Life’s a Fairground. He also adds several other metaphor options in his lovely post which you can read here.
Wynne and Malcolm each make several points, but I’m going to stick with just one. Life is like baseball because you never know when you’re going to get a curveball.
In fact, I had considered writing this post last year, on September 8th. It was one of those days where every winning team lost. This is what I love about baseball. You never know what is going to happen. Same teams, same players, different day, different results. Bats go silent, outfielders bobble balls, and Aaron Judge whiffs a curveball.
Isn’t this life? No matter how much we plan or prepare, something unexpected can happen. Life throws us a curveball.
And, just like a professional baseball player, we have to deal with whatever is thrown at us. We keep playing, practicing our skills, swinging away, and surrounding ourselves with teammates who will encourage us.
Whether you are climbing a mountain, going to the fairgrounds, or stepping up to the plate, you can find the inspiration and encouragement to keep playing—we are right here with you!
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11
