To find your purpose, do you search high and low?
Does it suddenly appear or slowly grow?
Does it keep itself quiet or put on a show?
Do you feel it for sure or still need to know?
I once read about a guy who said he knew he wanted to be a doctor since he was five. As someone who stumbled across my purpose late in life, I had mixed feelings about his declaration. I felt envious, annoyed, dismayed, and happy for him at the same time. Then I wondered if it would be a relief to know so early in life or really pretty boring. I mean, does he have any big revelations to look forward to? I related more to something I heard a comic say, “I ask kids what they want to be when they grow up because I’m still looking for ideas.”
Your purpose isn’t necessarily your job. No one call tell you what it is or tell you what purpose is best, its an individual thing—your it. How do you know when you have found it? You get really excited about it. Waking up in the morning, you look forward to ways to fulfill it. Do you come up with creative ideas about it? Even try to convince others how great your purpose is and they should join you in it?
To help you find your purpose is one of the reasons I began Monday Motivation. We might have to try new things, practice different intentions, change our perspectives or priorities to find our purpose. Maybe it has been there all along, but you were lacking confidence or expertise to try it.
For example, in this week’s challenge of practicing kindness, did you discover that you really love helping people? All kinds of organizations need volunteers to complete their missions. I know retired people who have become greeters at Walmart because they love interacting with people. What acts of service would you enjoy? Add your energy to a group or maybe just in your neighborhood.
Go for it! That doctor guy is still practicing 🙂 and so can you!
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you Monday for another motivation challenge.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
