Moving is hard. She stands in the closet, stuffed with clutter and full of memories. Each item seems to have a story. The t-shirt from an amazing concert, her wedding dress, the bikini from their honeymoon, the leotard and leggings she wore to those 80s aerobic classes (trying to get back in that bikini!) Each memory replay extends the time to pack.
True story, and sadly, I have never made it back to that bikini. As I am writing this in the middle of a move, surrounded by boxes, trash bags, and misplaced furniture, I take a few minutes at my computer to focus and recharge, and share with you my thoughts.
Moving to a new home always makes the list of top life stresses. So many decisions, like what to part with and what to pack. All the cleaning. Adapting to a new environment. Stepping into the unknown. It is mentally and physically exhausting! For me, I add the thought, could this be my last move?
Every day through this process, I try to focus on the positive. A new beginning, a new chapter, a new season. Changing the scenery, new friends, a fresh perspective on daily life. A reason to release clutter and simplify life with less stuff. Reorganize, repurposed, and rediscover beloved pieces of furniture or memorabilia. Feel a new sense of prioritization, defining what is important in life now.
After packing the t-shirt, and despite all the decisions, the excitement and anticipation of the future prevail. And God is with me wherever I go (and you too!)
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139:7-10 NLT
