Beyond the decorating, baking, and shopping, I believe Christmas is an epic love story. The story of an eternal love that existed before time itself.
Jesus, in His unfailing love, lived on earth to understand our humanness. He felt every emotion, from the joy of companionship to pain and betrayal unto death. Yet, Jesus gave His life for us not with resentment, but with an endless love.
If we accept Him, Christ gives the ultimate Christmas gift — his life-changing love. His gift frees the afflicted from pain, the addict from obsession, the inmate from guilt.
During this Christmas season, please join me in this prayer:
Dear Lord, we want to be a part of your epic love story! Show us how to move beyond our doubt and regain our hope, so we may experience what we can’t see or understand. Help us open our capacity for faith, releasing our hearts and minds to accept Jesus Christ. Amen.
That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Luke 2:8-14 NLT
[Jesus said] “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”
Luke 4:18-19 NLT
Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.
I Timothy 3:16 NLT
