MEMORIES AND PEACE OF MIND

Memories and Peace of Mind

On New Year’s Day, determined to promote my life of peace, I needed to take my advice and pack up the clutter. What seemed like an ordinary household task would challenge me to reconcile my memories and peace of mind.

My crazy idea to clean out and rearrange resulted in a 2 by 8 foot craft table filled with knickknacks. I named it my table of misfit memories. Each item seemed to reinforce my lifelong feelings of being different. Like Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and his friends on the Island of Misfit Toys, I felt rejected, yet still held on to the hope that someone could love me just as I am.

Through years of struggling, searching for unconditional love, and trying to please others on my way to acceptance, I found God. He crafted my brokenness into a beautiful uniqueness. By reminding myself of God’s unchanging love, it became possible to disrupt the cycle of self-judgement. In cooperating with God’s plans for me, He could use me to share His love with others.

Is that you? Will you offer God your brokenness? Will you allow Him to transform your awkwardness into something beautiful? Are you willing to give yourself to Him, accepting God’s unconditional love forever?

Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things.

Psalms 103:2-5
