THIRSTY

Thirsty

We have all felt thirsty on a hot summer day. Allow me to describe one of my favorite childhood treats. Family loaded in the car, traveling to the local A&W Root Beer Drive-In. Frosty glass mugs ordered for all. A server on roller skates delivered our delicious treats, gingerly balancing the tray on the side of the car window. If I was really lucky, a scoop of vanilla ice cream floated on top of my child-sized mug. The perfect end to a hot summer’s day!

In John 4:13 and 14, Jesus offers restorative refreshment that is never-ending: Jesus replied that people soon became thirsty again after drinking this water. “But the water I give them,” he said, “becomes a perpetual spring within them, watering them forever with eternal life.” He explains further in John 7:37-39, “On the last day, the climax of the holidays, Jesus shouted to the crowds, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. For the Scriptures declare that rivers of living water shall flow from the inmost being of anyone who believes in me.’ (He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him; but the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet returned to his glory in heaven.)”

Above all, don’t feel dry and thirsty. Reading the Bible will refresh you by the Words of our living God. He will replenish you with His Living Water of life!

Revelation 7:17, and it says, “For the Lamb standing in front of the throne will feed them and be their Shepherd and lead them to the springs of the Water of Life. And God will wipe their tears away.”
