Allow me to describe one of my favorite childhood treats. Family loaded in the car, traveling to the local A&W Root Beer Drive In. We excitedly expect a tray of frosty glass mugs, placed on the side of the car window by a server on skates. If I was really lucky, a scoop of vanilla ice cream floated on top of my child-sized mug. The perfect end to a hot summer’s day!
In John 4:13 and 14, Jesus offers restorative refreshment that is never-ending: Jesus replied that people soon became thirsty again after drinking this water. “But the water I give them,” he said, “becomes a perpetual spring within them, watering them forever with eternal life.” He explains further in John 7:37-39, “On the last day, the climax of the holidays, Jesus shouted to the crowds, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. For the Scriptures declare that rivers of living water shall flow from the inmost being of anyone who believes in me.’ (He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him; but the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet returned to his glory in heaven.)”
The next time you are feeling dry, pick up your Bible and be refreshed by the Words of our living God, replenishing you with His Living Water of life!
One more scripture for today is in Revelation 7:17, and it says, “For the Lamb standing in front of the throne will feed them and be their Shepherd and lead them to the springs of the Water of Life. And God will wipe their tears away.”
