When it comes to attitude we have choices. 1Thessalonians instructs us to be joyful and thankful no matter what is going on in our lives. Really?!
How is this possible? You don’t have to board the roller coaster of emotions. You can choose how you respond to circumstances. Take a deep breath. Remember, situations always change. Life may not be perfect, but you can be grounded in an attitude of gratitude. Read more in my post Milestones.
Choosing our reactions, responses, words (or no words) can make all the difference in any situation. These reactions can diffuse or escalate what happens next. So many time we rush in with an emotionally charged response when we should take a breath and allow our brains to kick in.
There are times of great sadness and challenges we endure. King David said in Psalms, “Weeping may go on all night, but in the morning there is joy.” God is not ignoring our problems. He doesn’t expect you to put on false optimism or pretend all is well. He wants you to remember you belong to Him, you live in His grace and care. God always has the last word! Allow His love to influence your choices.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Living Bible: “Always be joyful. Always keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
