Amy Carmichael was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1867 to a devout family of Scottish ancestry. The oldest of seven children, her faith increased in her teen years, leading her to work among the poor in Belfast.

Health issues prevented her from official missionary assignments, but that didn’t stop her from going to Japan and eventually serving in India from 1895 to 1925. She established an orphanage in Dohnavur, India, which still continues today.

Amy was a prolific writer, publishing around 35 books, along with poetry and songs. You can learn about her inspiring life here.
