Monday Motivation: Generosity

Monday Motivation Generosity

Hello to a beautiful Monday! I had my first hummingbird sighting for the season and plenty of April showers are bringing up delightful spring flowers! Our Monday Motivation focus is right in line with this spirit of plentiful beauty: generosity.

We all appreciate generosity. We like to receive, but do we equally enjoy giving? In the hurries and worries of life, it can take extra effort to think of ourselves less, to reach out and be friendly and charitable.

Generosity is more than giving stuff. We are also generous with our time and attention, thoughts and influence, words of encouragement, as well as things and money.

Chemical stuff happens in our brains when we are generous. Psychologists found others perceive generous people as more attractive, perhaps because generosity suggests a happier, more optimistic attitude.

The Bible tells us, in John chapter 6, the story of a boy who gives his lunch to help feed 5,000 people. The boy had five small loaves of bread and two fish. He didn’t overthink it; and he didn’t hold it back because he thought it wasn’t enough to do any good. That young boy gladly gave what he had, and Jesus performed a miracle with it. We can follow this example by not analyzing everything, or waiting until we have everything we want before we help. If you are feeling prompted to help, even a little, do so. Give what you can by faith and trust God to multiply the results.

This week, as you consider generosity, think unreciprocated giving. Cultivate a spirit of giving and sharing, ever willing to give your time, energy, and resources.

When you give, you will be rewarded in ways you could never imagine as you change lives and attitudes through generosity!

“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16

“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
