Inspiring Stories of Reaching People

Inspiring Stories

Inspiring Stories of Reaching People show us how human kindness can quickly spread from one person recognizing a need and taking action to help someone. Here are three organizations whose tiny seeds of faith grew to bless hundreds people.

Nashville Street Barbers

How is a barber in Nashville is making a difference in her community? This is from the Nashville Street Barbers website:

“On Monday evenings, the homeless community gathers in Nashville.

A group of nonprofits and volunteers that serve the homeless population sets up on the plaza almost every week to make sure those in need know where and when they can get assistance.

Caroline Lindner, a barber in Nashville, started joining in about a year and a half ago. Since then, she’s teamed up with several other skilled Barbers and Cosmetologists to create Nashville Street Barbers, which is well on its way to becoming an institution in the community.

There are four core members of the Nashville Street Barber team: Lindner, Dareka “Pebblez” Carney, Abishai Collingsworth and Ryan Timmons, as well as a rotating set of volunteers, all of whom are licensed barbers & stylists. The barbers give free haircuts to anyone who needs them.

People need each other. This isn’t about hair, it’s about reminding people they’re human, and changing the perception of these people,” Collingsworth said.”

God’s Garage

God’s Garage began when a pastor stopped to help a woman walking along a busy Houston area roadway one night. She was a single mom and had a car, but couldn’t afford to pay for the repairs it needed.

From their website:
God’s Garage is a ministry reflecting God’s love. We are a group of people who want to help others by being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. Our organization was born out of the needs we saw around us, as some single mothers, widows and wives of deployed military in our community were struggling to make ends meet.

One of the ways that we help these under-resourced ladies is by stepping in and making necessary repairs to their vehicles. We do not charge anything for labor, and we try to help with parts as we can. We also help those who need a dependable car but are not in a financial position to be able to purchase one, by gifting vehicles for free.”

Raising Men Lawn Care Service

In Huntsville, Alabama, Rodney Smith Jr., was on his way home when he noticed his elderly neighbor struggling to mow his lawn. He stopped to help and was soon mowing the lawns of other elderly, disabled, and veteran families in his area. The idea of getting local kids involved gave birth to Raising Men Lawn Care Service.

Over 3,000 boys and girls have accepted his 50 Lawn Challenge nationwide and in other countries. Here’s a video with more of the story and checkout his website.

What seed of an idea do you have that could meet a need in your community? Just start! Many other people are looking for an opportunity to bless their neighbors and will join you.

When people work together, we can transform a little idea into a might work of love.

Somewhere in my posts I add a link to one of my prior posts. This time you may be surprised with the selection I made. My message: helping someone can come in unexpected ways, in ordinary days, and can be as simple as encouraging them!

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-12
