In this Regular Girl Devos Retro-edition: Sunflowers, I am reviewing one of my most popular posts, originally published in June 2021.

Ranch and farm land surrounds my tiny Texas town. Most years there is at least one that is growing acres of sunflowers. Driving by thousands of sunflower faces reaching for the sun seeded my thoughts for this post:
One of the most beautiful sights is an entire field of sunflowers following the sun. We can become our most beautiful when we follow the Son of God.
I found a lovely-worded article on a website that no longer exists:
Gardentrivia.com explains the phenomena of sunflowers, “Young sunflowers follow the sun, their yellow blossoms pivoting to track the golden star on its orbit from morning to night. Once the sun sets in the West, the sunflower slowly turns its head back to the East during the night and waits for the sun to rise again. Once the sunflower matures, it stops following the sun and is content to just soak up the rays as they fall. Fully developed blossoms usually stop and stay in an east facing direction.”
I felt this was much like our Christian walk:
This is a wonderful metaphor of the Christian following Christ. As a young Christian, we follow Him closely through consistent learning. As we mature, we become more confident in our knowledge and accept His promises as they fall into our lives.
Sunflowers Follow the Sun and We Follow the Son
I wrap it up with a beautiful quote and a brief conclusion:
Matthew Henry, a gifted theologian from the late 1600s, wrote, “The flower of youth never appears more beautiful than when it bends toward the sun of righteousness.” Just as a sunflower relies on the sun for growth, we too have the Light of the World, in Christ Jesus, to help us mature in beauty.
My husband says I have a unique ability to get to the bottom-line of things. So, here we go: as sunflowers follow the sun, we follow the Son!
Finally, let’s soak up some bible verse light from our wonderful creator:
Jesus said in John 12:46, “I have come as a Light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer wander in the darkness.”
1 John 2:8 in the Living Bible says, “Yet it is always new, and works for you just as it did for Christ; and as we obey this commandment, to love one another, the darkness in our lives disappears and the new light of life in Christ shines in.”
James 1:17, “But whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God, the Creator of all light, and he shines forever without change or shadow.”
