Inspiring Stories: More Than a Carpenter

Inspiring Stories

Today’s inspiring story is about the book More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell.

Years ago, when I was reconnecting to God, I read Josh McDowell’s More Than a Carpenter. Since 1977, it continues to answer the question of Jesus. Could a humble carpenter really be the Son of God? It spoke to my inner nerd by presenting evidence factually. He doesn’t use religious jargon or simply quote a lot of Bible verses.

Here is the description from the back cover of his updated release:

“The story that could change your life. Skeptic Josh McDowell thought Christians were out of their minds. He ridiculed and insulted them, then decided to combat them with his own thorough research to disprove the claims of Jesus Christ. To his surprise, he discovered that the evidence suggested exactly the opposite-that Jesus, instead of being simply a first-century Hebrew carpenter, truly was the God he claimed to be.

Since its original publication, More Than a Carpenter has sold over 20 million copies and changed countless lives. Now, in this revised and updated edition, Josh is joined by his son, Sean, as they tackle the questions that today’s generation continues to ask: “Can I be spiritual without believing in God?” “How can I make sure that my life counts for something?” “Is it really possible to know anything for sure about God or Jesus?” Read the story. Weigh the facts. Experience his love. And then watch what happens.”

Josh and his son, Sean, strive to inspire a new generation. They answer the tough questions and encourage a personal relationship of faith. It is interesting to read the historical Roman writings about Jesus and see what changed a skeptic to a believer.

The reason it took me so long is because I was in the middle of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer…but this is a great book Dana. It should be required reading in upper Sunday schools…it would be perfect for someone who lost their faith…which can happen from time to time. He connected the dots so well….and I’m going to get my wife to read it…she will enjoy it…I’m also going to mention it to our preacher….Thank you so much!

It is…now I’m on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn…. Twain was a great writer. I had to read these in school…now I just wanted to.

That’s fun. Are you reading or listening? If listening, is it a Twain sounding voice?

I haven’t come across this book before.
In my writing and in my books, I often incorporate scripture—not to overwhelm, but to help readers grasp my message and connect with my story. I want them to see that these words reflect my faith and are rooted in the Lord’s teachings, as evidenced by the scripture I’ve used.
