Looking Back and Moving Forward

Looking Back and Moving Forward

Wow, a new year already? Here are some predictions:

  • Probability of looking back and still moving forward.
  • Moments of laughter and tears.
  • Some successes and oops-try-agains.
  • Times of happiness and sorrow.
  • Comforting sameness and awkward change.

Okay, you get it, no Nostradamus needed, this is simply life. We may not get to predict the future, but we can determine our attitude, come what may.

As you are looking back and moving forward, are you approaching the new year as an optimist or pessimist?

Billy Graham tells the story of a conversation with a US Senator. The senator asked him if he was a pessimist or an optimist. Billy answered with a big smile and without hesitation that he was always an optimist. Why? He said, “I have read the last page of the Bible!”

No matter what life has in store for us this year, with the help of God, we can make it. Don’t worry about feeling sad, mad, or just plain exhausted. Each day we get wiser, stronger, more confident, more resolved.

We can look forward to the year to come because we have a great and loving God to back us up. Some days are small steps, some days are giant leaps. It doesn’t matter. It is progress. A favorite quote from an unknown author says, “Don’t compare your progress to that of others. We need our own time to travel our own distance.”

Keep traveling along, dear reader! Circumstances come and go, but our spirits and the unchanging love of God are eternal.

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His faithful love endures forever.

Psalm 136:26
