Fall has to be my favorite season of the year! A return to the cozy indoors with snuggly throws and sweaters. Deep colors surround us and we get a delightful transition to the slower pace of winter. We fill chilly days with Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Pumpkin Bread, and carving funny pumpkin faces.
Decorate for fall with colorful fall leaves, acorns, mums, and, of course, pumpkins. Make buntings out of the leaves and add more throw pillows and a lap quilt to the sofa.
The perfect fall day will have a nip in the air, so gather around the fire pit and have marshmallows for roasting. Instead of s’mores, try making campfire cones. Take a waffle cone and add your favorites fillings like chocolate or candy bar pieces, marshmallows, nuts, raisins, or whatever you like! Wrap in foil and place in the campfire until melted, about 5-7 minutes.
Don’t forget the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, or how about Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate? Warm Mulled Wine or warm Mulled Herbal Tea? My favorite recipe for Mulled Herbal Tea is adding 8 tea bags of Celestial Seasonings Mandarin Orange Spice Tea to each 2 quart bottle of apple cider. Warm in a crock pot or stove top. YUM!
Chili Pie and Crock pots
The perfect meal for a fall? Frito Chili Pie! Make the Chili in a crock pot and provide all the fixings available to personalize. Serve in large mugs, or I have seen vendors at fall fairs tear open the top of an individual serving bag of Fritos and add the chili and cheese on top! Easy and out of the ordinary.
To serve with your hot drinks, include a collection of sweet breads like pumpkin, chocolate chip, lemon, zucchini, carrot, etc. Serve with whipped cream or your roasted marshmallows.
As an activity, how about a Chili Cook-Off. You will have a great selection of chili on hand for your Frito Pie! Another activity could be a scavenger hunt, maybe with a focus on collecting items found in nature. What a way to enjoy a glorious fall day!
